Should you Start Your own Business? TAKE THIS TEST
When you become certified as an Alternative Health professional, you will have a choice to work for yourself, or look for a job in a spa or health centre. Take this quick and simple test to see if you have what it takes to work for yourself.
Rate yourself from 1 to 10 in each of these categories:
Self Confidence You will be selling yourself as well as your product or service.
Leadership You are at the top of the chain when you become your own boss. No one is going to tell you what to do. You have to be self-motivated, and a self-starter. You’ll have to solve all your own problems.
Communication skills You will be speaking to clients, groups and other professionals constantly
Organization You will have to manage your time well, be on time for appointments, be productive, and keep accurate records. Self-employment requires a serious approach to responsibility.
Commitment Can you commit fully to your own business? You will have to choose between the security of a conventional job and the opportunity to be your own boss. You may have to work long hours, especially in the beginning. You may have to make sacrifices, or use leisure or family time for study or training. Can you commit whole-heartedly to this? Can you commit to success?
Can you think in terms of long-range success to make those short-term sacrifices? You are renovating your life and career. It takes time to set things up the way you want them to be. Creating a successful business is a lot like renovating a home. At first your life will be inconvenienced and a bit messy with chaos, construction, choices and decisions. But the end result is a beautiful, harmonious environment that, with intelligent regular maintenance, you can enjoy for many years.
Will your family be supportive? You need a network of friends, family, and associates that will encourage and support you when things get rough. Will your family co-operate or pitch in to assist you? Or will they demand your time, interrupt you when you are with clients or on the telephone, and be jealous of your commitment to a larger goal?
SCORE: How did you rate? If you scored less than 50 out of 70, you may want to work for someone else instead of yourself
